Tolu balsam

Tolu balsam is a resin-like substance extracted from the Myroxylon balsamum tree. Tolu balsam is used as a medicine.

Tolu balsam is used for coughs, bronchitis, swollen airways and cancer. Tolu balsam is applied directly to the skin to treat pressure sores, cracked nipples, chapped or cracked lips and minor cuts. Some people inhale tolu balsam to treat hoarseness and croup. In foodstuffs, tolu balsam is used as a flavoring for chewing gum, food and drinks. In industrial production, tolu balsam is used as a fixative, as a fragrance in soap and cosmetics and as a flavoring agent in cough medicines.

Further scientific research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of Tolu Balm in these applications.
