Methoxyisoflavon

Methoxy-isoflavone (also known as 5-methyl 7-methoxyisoflavone) belongs to the group of isoflavones. It is similar to the isoflavones found in soybeans (e.g. genistein and daidzein). In contrast to these isoflavones, it acts as an anti-oestrogen. Similar to beta-ecdysterone, methoxy-isoflavone found its way into the bodybuilding supplement scene after studies on fattening animals demonstrated weight gains. Methoxy isoflavone was originally classified as an anabolic substance for fattening animals. It was later shown that methoxyisoflavone is the most effective substance in the isoflavone family and can increase body weight in fattening animals by up to 10 percent. Methoxy isoflavone is an anabolic compound that builds muscle mass by putting the body in an anabolic state. When the body is in an anabolic state, it uses protein to build muscle mass. The state of our body constantly alternates between anabolic and catabolic. Methoxyisoflavone increases protein synthesis (and nitrogen retention) and is therefore called anabolic. This is important for anyone who wants to build muscle mass, as muscles are formed faster when the body is in an anabolic state.

The research

A recently published study gives a first indication of the effects for bodybuilders: 14 students (not bodybuilders) were given either a placebo or 800 mg of methoxy-isoflavone in the form of a sports drink over eight weeks. Neither training nor diet were monitored or prescribed. The test subjects were merely instructed to continue their training program. In this case, the experimental group gained 3.4 kg of body weight. As the body fat content did not decrease, the increase in lean muscle mass led to a change in tissue composition. The control group gained one kilogram in the same period, which turned out to be fat.

Benefits of methoxyisoflavone

Lean body mass, increased recovery periods and a superior increase in strength have been reported by world-class athletes. Methoxyisoflavone has been shown to lead to increased nitrogen retention and enhanced muscle growth. Finally, research shows that methoxyisoflavone has a strong cortisol-suppressing effect. Methoxyisoflavone does not lead to increased estrogen levels and androgenic side effects. Methoxyisoflavone has been shown to reduce body fat, lower cholesterol and improve the utilization of oxygen in the body. Each of these mechanisms of action would be useful for athletes.

Dosage and intake

It is generally recommended to take 400mg twice a day. So 800mg per day. Remember, for best results Methoxy-Isoflavone should be taken with a high protein meal! Ecdysterone is also an ideal supplement for methoxy-isoflavone. Both substances have a positive effect on the metabolism and promote anabolism at various biochemical levels.
