Inula Racemosa

Inula racemosa is a plant that grows in the high mountains and is often used for medicinal purposes. It is also known as Pushkarmool. The root of this plant has been used in Eastern cultures for centuries to treat coughs and support a healthy cardiovascular system. Inula Racemosa can be found in many weight loss supplements such as LipoCut, LeptiSlim and Hydroxycut Hardcore.

What are the benefits of Inula Racemosa?

Inula Racemosa is used in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of heart disease. Studies conducted on animals such as mice and guinea pigs suggest that an extract from this plant can lower cholesterol levels and reduce other risk factors for heart disease. Other benefits include the following.

Inula racemosa may have anti-cancer properties.

An article published in the journal Toxicology in Vitro suggests that Inula racemosa may have some anti-cancer effects. In an ongoing study at the time of publication, scientists had noted that extracts from the root of this plant could help kill certain leukemia cells. Although further research is needed, many experts already have high hopes for Inula racemosa.

Inula racemosa can lower cholesterol levels

In a study conducted in India in 2009, animals were monitored and fed a high-fat diet for 30 days. At the end of this period, 6 animals were killed and the fat deposits in the coronary arteries, aorta and major organs were examined. The remaining animals were divided into 5 groups of 6 animals and fed for a further 90 days, with some receiving additional Inula racemosa. The results of this study showed that Inula racemosa reduced total cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, and bad LDL cholesterol levels while increasing good HDL cholesterol levels. These studies confirmed that Inula racemosa root does indeed have the cardioprotective and weight gain preventing properties attributed to it in traditional medicine.

Inula racemosa can help in the treatment of heart disease

A study conducted on 200 patients with ischemic heart disease investigated the effect of Inula racemosa in combination with guggul, another cholesterol-lowering plant. At the beginning of the study, about 80 percent of the patients suffered from shortness of breath and all complained of chest pain. After 6 months of treatment with this combination, 25 percent of the subjects no longer had chest pain and only 32 percent continued to complain of shortness of breath.

Inula Racemosa could stimulate weight loss

Inula Rac emosa contains alantolactone, which increases insulin sensitivity. This means that less insulin is released after eating and fewer of the calories consumed during a meal are stored as fat.

Recommended intake

Most supplements contain 20 to 100 mg Inula Racemosa.

Risks and side effects

Weight loss supplements containing Inula racemosa often contain up to 300 mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to about three cups of coffee and can lead to overstimulation in people who are sensitive to caffeine. With regard to the root of Inula racemosa itself, no serious side effects have yet been reported. However, there are concerns due to the fact that Inula racemosa could act as a beta-blocker. Beta-blockers are used to treat high blood pressure, among other things. If this plant does indeed act as a beta-blocker, then it should not be combined with prescription beta-blockers. For this reason, the use of Inula Racemosa should be discussed with your doctor if you are taking beta-blockers or similar medication.
