What is quercetin?

Quercetin is a naturally occurring flavonoid found in some fruits and vegetables, which studies have shown can provide a variety of health benefits (1,2,3,4). Unfortunately, quercetin is only found in very small amounts in food, which is why supplementation can be useful to make the most of all the benefits of the active ingredient. The benefits that quercetin has had in studies are numerous and we would like to discuss the most interesting ones below.

What effects has quercetin shown in studies?

Numerous studies have shown that quercetin can reduce the levels of a variety of inflammatory markers in the body and thus counteract various chronic inflammations (1, 2). In general, these inflammations are associated with the development of a variety of different diseases, among other things. Due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, quercetin has been shown to help relieve joint pain in test subjects and reduce joint stiffness in joint conditions such as arthritis (2, 3 ). Another effect shown in studies was that quercetin could improve blood pressure, cholesterol levels and other markers of heart health. Another effect observed was a significant reduction in blood pressure, which appears to be due to a relaxing effect on the blood vessels (4, 5). In addition to this, further studies have shown that it lowers levels of unhealthy LDL cholesterol and increases levels of healthy HDL cholesterol (6). Various studies also suggest that quercetin can improve the function of the immune system and also appears to have antibacterial effects (7, 8). It is particularly interesting to note that one of these studies, which was carried out with intensively training athletes, showed that quercetin was able to significantly reduce the frequency of infectious diseases such as colds after a period of particularly intensive training - which can temporarily impair the function of the immune system (1, 9, 10). In addition to reducing the negative effects of intense exercise on the immune system in subjects, quercetin reduced exercise-induced inflammation and exercise-induced oxidative stress (2, 11). Both can speed up recovery after exercise and get you ready for the next intensive training session more quickly (12).

Quercetin is an active ingredient that unfortunately many athletes do not even have on their radar when it comes to supporting their regeneration. In science, however, quercetin has long been an ingredient with many positive effects and is therefore becoming increasingly popular as a dietary supplement. As always, GN supplies you with the active ingredient in the usual top quality so that all the benefits can be optimally utilized. Quercetin Dihydrate from GN Laboratories - because in the end only results count.
