What is citrulline malate and how can citrulline malate maximize the pump?

Citrulline is an amino acid that occurs naturally in the human body. It is - as is generally to be expected with endogenous substances - completely safe and harmless to health. This fact, combined with its strong circulation-promoting properties (1), has made citrulline one of the most popular pump supplements in weight training and bodybuilding. However, as we will explain in more detail in a moment, citrulline malate has a number of other effects in addition to blood circulation, from which everyone from endurance athletes to professional bodybuilders can benefit. First, however, let's take a closer look at improved blood circulation and how this comes about.

Citrulline acts as a substrate for the arginine - nitric oxide synthase - nitric oxide pathway in the human body. At the same time, however, it also stimulates the production of the enzyme nitric oxide synthase, which is responsible for nitric oxide production in the blood vessels. The combination of these two processes results in a maximum production of nitric oxide in the body (2). This nitric oxide serves as an important messenger substance in the blood vessels. Its task is to induce relaxation of the smooth muscle tissue of the veins, which can result in dilation of the veins and maximum blood flow to the muscles (1). This significantly increased blood supply, which occurs faster than the blood can flow out of the veins again, leads to the popular condition of a pump (3). But the pump in the muscles is by no means the only benefit of increased blood flow.

Citrulline malate was able to significantly increase the training performance and energy of test subjects during a workout, while at the same time greatly delaying the onset of muscle fatigue. According to the researchers, this was due to the fact that an increased blood supply is synonymous with a maximum supply of oxygen, energy-providing nutrients and the body's own anabolic hormones (4). All of these factors are critical to supplying the muscles with everything they need to perform and sustain during exercise. Increased blood flow also influences how quickly toxic metabolites are removed, which are inevitably produced as waste products of energy metabolism during intense exercise (4). The removal of these toxic waste products is so important for training because the contractility of the muscles decreases progressively with higher levels of waste products until muscle failure ultimately occurs (5). In addition to this, citrulline malate has another effect that can improve training. Citrulline was able to increase the ATP production of the muscles in test subjects in a study, while at the same time counteracting premature muscle exhaustion due to muscle acidification (6). The latter is related to the fact that citrulline is the limiting factor for the toxic ammonia produced during exercise (7). More citrulline resulted in a faster breakdown of ammonia in test subjects.

How can citrulline malate maximize your muscle gain?

After training, a better supply of oxygen, important muscle-building nutrients and the body's own anabolic hormones to exhausted muscles naturally also results in faster and better re generation due to an increased blood supply (8). Improved regeneration in turn ensures that a growth stimulus can be set again more quickly without falling into a state of overtraining (9). More frequent training sessions can theoretically already significantly improve the build-up of strength and muscle mass (10), but citrulline can do even more. The amino acid is potentially able to further increase muscle growth through several independent effects. In addition, scientific studies have shown that citrulline can increase the rate of muscle protein synthesis, so that more muscle protein and therefore more muscle mass can be built up (3,8). Last but not least, the extreme muscle pump results in a stretching of the fascia - the hard, fibrous network of connective tissue that gives your muscles their stability, but also limits the space available for them to grow. Scientific studies have shown that repeated stretching of the fascia has a direct anabolic, muscle-building effect on test subjects (6).

Citrulline malate in innovative TeraCaps®

Our TeraCaps® have a decisive advantage over other citrulline capsules, where you have to swallow significantly more capsules to take your daily dose of citrulline. We know how uncomfortable many people find having to swallow large quantities of capsules, which is why we use our innovative TeraCaps®. Our Tera Caps contain significantly more citrulline than comparable products in capsule form, thanks to an advanced process for filling the capsules with the same capsule size. You therefore need to swallow fewer capsules to take optimal amounts of citrulline.

Citrulline is rightly one of the most popular supplements when it comes to improving blood circulation. Numerous studies have shown a variety of positive effects for their test groups in terms of performance, muscle building and the removal of toxic metabolic waste. As usual, GN supplies the active ingredient only in the best quality and in the form of the innovative Terracaps. This ensures that all the benefits of citrulline can unfold freely. Citrulline Malate Tera Caps from GN Laboratories - because in the end only results count.
