Can baking soda counteract hyperacidity in the body?

Sodium bicarbonate, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a dietary supplement that provides carbonate to the human body. The main mechanism of action of sodium bicarbonate is to prevent the effects of acidosis in the body. Supplementation can increase the serum level of carbonate and thus buffer acid production in the body. Sodium bicarbonate has been shown in numerous studies to be effective in both chronic mild acidosis and exercise-induced acidosis. Such acidosis of the body - also known as metabolic acidosis - is relatively common nowadays due to factors such as stress, lack of exercise, an unbalanced diet, high protein consumption and lifestyle factors (4). According to researchers, the tricky thing about acidosis is that it initially only manifests itself through non-specific symptoms such as fatigue, lack of energy, loss of appetite, muscle pain, reduced physical and mental performance, headaches, joint pain, concentration problems and immune deficiency (5). Although these factors can severely affect general well-being and health, they do not indicate the cause and are symptoms of numerous imbalances in the body (6). Scientific studies have shown that over-acidification can promote the development of numerous diseases in the long term, such as osteoporosis, migraines, depression, weight gain, increased cholesterol and blood sugar levels, etc. in test subjects (7). Scientific studies have shown that taking baking soda can counteract such acidification of the body (1). This effect is based on the fact that baking soda has an alkaline effect and supplies the body with hydrogen carbonate ions. These can neutralize acids in the body and thus bring the body's pH value back into balance (1).

Influence of baking soda on endurance and athletic performance

During intense physical exertion, as is the case with strength training in particular, the body uses anaerobic pathways to provide energy. These pathways provide a lot of energy, but also produce large amounts of lactate (lactic acid). This accumulation of lactic acid leads to muscle burn during exercise and ultimately to muscle failure. Taking baking soda about 120 minutes before training improved muscle endurance in test subjects and delayed the onset of muscle failure (2). In athletes, studies have shown that sodium bicarbonate has a reliable positive effect on performance when athletic performance is strongly influenced by metabolic acidosis, also known as "burn". As a result, more repetitions could be performed before muscle failure occurred. This in turn leads to greater gains in strength and muscle mass in the long term, according to all the rules of science (8). However, the positive effects of sodium bicarbonate are not limited to strength training. Sodium bicarbonate has been used as a home remedy for a number of problems for years. While some areas of application have been dismissed in studies as complete misconceptions, there are also cases such as the aforementioned benefits in relation to hyperacidity and athletic performance that have been verified. However, this is not the end of the studies that have attributed a positive effect to baking soda. In the case of acidification of the body, the kidneys are the only organ that can help prevent acidification of the blood. However, this process also places a heavy burden on the kidneys. By taking baking soda, a study was able to prevent such acidosis. Ich muss aus gesundheitlichen Gründen eine Basenkur machen und wollte nicht mein Natron zum putzen nehmen ;) und hab das empfohlen bekommen.
