Nuts: an important part of a healthy diet

Nuts are high in calories and fat, which is why until recently they were not perceived as foods that are good for health (especially the heart).

A literature review and meta-analysis led by Liane Del Gobbo of Tufts University in Boston, which combined the results of 61 controlled intervention studies, concluded that nuts lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B (apoB) and triglyceride levels. The amount of nuts in the diet was more important than the type of nuts. Nut intake promotes weight control by replacing less healthy foods in the diet and by combating hunger.
