A diogenic diet helps to maintain weight loss
Increasing the protein content of the diet by five percent after a significant weight loss (25 pounds) resulted in better weight maintenance than diets that included different types of carbohydrates. This was the conclusion of the scientists of "The Diogenes Project", a randomized clinical trial conducted in 8 centers in Europe. The subjects followed a diet of 800 kcal per day for 8 weeks and lost an average of 25 pounds in weight.
Increasing protein intake helps people maintain their weight loss and improves blood pressure, blood lipid levels and inflammation in adults and children. The diet after weight loss was particularly significant as no attempt was made to reduce calorie intake.
Increasing protein intake is a simple and effective way to help control body weight.
