OLIMP CHITOSAN® contains chitin fibres, a natural fibre substance isolated from the armour of a marine crustacean. Chitin can be also found in the cell walls of fungi and some bacterial strains. It belongs to the group of polysaccharides, which cannot be digested and assimilated by the human system.

What role do chitin fibres play?
Although they do not play any nutritional role, they exert an essential effect on the work of the digestive tract and the regulation of fat in the body. At the same time, thanks to its specific properties it efficiently facilitates weight reduction.

How do chitin fibres aid slimming?
Chitin influences the process of fat reduction in two ways. On the one hand it curbs the appetite, and on the other hand, it restrains the absorption of fat and sugar from the digestive tract, at the same time lowering calorie intake.

How does chitin inhibit hunger?
After chitin enters the digestive tract, chitin fibres are dissolved in the digestive juices and are transformed into a sticky, expanding gel. This substance increases its volume and distends the stomach walls, efficiently inhibiting the feeling of hunger.

On what principle do chitin fibres limit fat absorption?
Dissolved in the digestive tract, chitin fibres wind themselves round fat molecules, which makes these molecules inaccessible for digestive enzymes, so fat cannot be absorbed and as a result it is excreted. One gram of chitosan can bind and excrete from 8 to 20 grams of fat, thus it reduces the caloricity of a meal by almost 180 kcal! No other known fibre tissue can boast such high efficiency in reducing calorie intake in your diet.

How do chitin fibres influence cholesterol management?
As in the case of fat, chitin fibres are capable of binding and eliminating bile acids and cholesterol from the digestive tract, thus reducing the level of cholesterol in the blood. Chitin fibres also efficiently lower the sugar level and blood pressure, by which they have a beneficial influence on the action of the heart and the circulatory system.

Chitosan (powdered shells of a marine crustacean), microcrystalline cellulose and powdered cellulose (bulking agents), magnesium stearate (anti-caking agent), gelatine (capsule envelope)

Directions
The supplement should be taken before main meals (especially those higher in calorie content) and washed down with a large amount of liquid. It is recommended for take 2 capsules of the preparation 20-30 minutes before the meal and drink 1-2 glasses of water 3-4 times daily. As chitin fibres bind not only fat and sugar very efficiently, but also some vitamins dissolved in fat (A D E), when the supplement is taken, the diet should be enriched by supplements of these vitamins (e.g. OLIMP BETA KAROTEN ®). Vitamin supplements should be taken 2 hours before or after having taken chitosan.
