Octacosanol

Beschreibung des Wirkstoffes
Octacosanol ist die Hauptkomponente des Policosanols. Policosanol ist eine Mischung insgesamt acht verschiedener, primärer, aliphatischer Alkohole. Octacosanol ist der primäre einwertige Alkohol mit achtundzwanzig Kohlenstoff-Atomen (C28).

Vorkommen und Bioverfügbarkeit

Eine andere Studie (3,6 mg pro Tag über eine Woche) belegt die Verringerung der Reaktionszeit durch Octacosanol bei Menschen. Die generelle Steigerung der körperlichen Leistungsfähigkeit, sowie die Bereitstellung zusätzlicher Energiereserven konnte nicht nachgewiesen werden. Studien mit Policosanol haben gezeigt, dass Tagesdosen von 5-20 mg Policosanol über acht Wochen den Total- und LDL-Cholesterinwert um 10-20% senken. Die Senkung des Triglyceridwertes konnte nicht einstimmig nachgewiesen werden. Ebenfalls keine einstimmigen Beweise gab es bezüglich der Wirkung auf den Herz-/ Blutkreislauf, bzw. der Potenzprobleme.
